Description

One of if not the best performing Ajuga in our gardens, Burgundy Glow sports very pretty leaves dappled in green, cream, burgundy, and smoky pink. The dense, rapidly spreading variegated leaves contrast nicely with other plants in shady to partially shaded areas of the garden. Spikes of violet color flowers that rise above the foliage in spring are an extra-added bonus.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing in a carpet-like patch 4 to 6 inches tall and spreading 18 inches or more, Burgundy Glow Ajuga is a wonderful choice for use as a colorful groundcover in shady to partially shaded areas. With consistently moist soil this variety will tolerate full sun. Also ideal for use as a spreading border along paths and walkways, as a groundcover to fill in around shrubs in home foundation plantings and woodland areas, as a gap and crevice filler between pavers and stones, as an underplanting for shrubs and trees, tucked around boulders in rock gardens, as a soil cover in combination container gardens.

Suggested Spacing: 12 to 18 inches apart for mass plantings and solid borders

Growing Preferences

When planted right and in the right spot, Burgundy Glow Ajuga is easy to grow. It adapts to most soil types and likes shade to part shade. With consistently moist soil it will tolerate full sun, even in the South. It prefers a moist but well-drained soil of average fertility. Overly dry soils will require supplemental irrigation. As with many other plants, a constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic.

Great plants for groundcover. Once they get situated and spread not much need for weeding….excellent. I picked these for their interesting color and they will go nicely with my other three varieties I have. I planted my other ones last year so they are very well established….by next year I am sure these will be just as beautiful. They came very well packaged and the root structure was well established as well. I unpacked them and watered them and I let them get a couple of days of climatization before planting them. They are quite happy and looking very nice. In my three pics they are the smaller plants mainly centered in the pics.—————————————————Thanks so much for the photos!!
